Whiteness and Race Equality Network – Webinar

The Whiteness and Race Equality Network are hosting a webinar on Wednesday 28 October 2020Black his(herstory) month – a year on – Coproduction, whiteness, action research for race equality in mental health.

The webinar builds on the conference, October 14th, 2019 focused on identifying whiteness in working across the colour for race equality in the areas of diagnosis, research and counselling in mental health. The event looks at the challenges, benefits and the steps needed to develop a race equality research model, an authentic co-production and equity approach to address the over-representation of black people in mental health in the era of COVID-19.

Amid the rapid expansion of medical technology, what place do religion and spirituality hold in contemporary medicine? How are spirituality, physical health, and mental health interconnected, and how do these relationships shape experiences of illness and healing?
For the last decades philosophy has played an increasingly important role in debates on the legitimation, organisation and practice of mental health care. It questions the aims of care, critically examines the boundaries of diagnoses and explores the roles of experience and expertise. But how might it actually inform practice? In other words, what can philosophy do for mental health care?
