This seminar will explore public health approaches to experiences, traits, conditions or symptoms that are typically associated with psychosis. The topics covered will include hearing voices, paranoia and social determinants that may be predictive or protective of a psychosis diagnosis.

The seminar builds on the Collaborative Doctoral Award project “Lived Experience and Personal Values in the Philosophy of Psychiatry: Reframing Evidence in Developing a New Public Mental Health Approach to Serious Mental Illness” developed by Anna Bergqvist at Manchester Metropolitan University and David Crepaz-Keay at the Mental Health Foundation.

Session 2: Launch of Values-based Practice in Public Mental Health Network

The network has been established to put values-based practice at the core of developing thinking in this area. It aims to brings together a strong partnership of philosophers, practitioners and activists with a shared ambition to shift thinking away from the idea of individual illness towards an approach which takes into account the broader context of wellbeing, public mental health and population mental health; recognising the importance of communities, relationships and the impact of inequalities and power relationships.
