Brief Description of Work: Our approach characterizes psychopathological phenotypes in terms of pheno-phenotypes. Our aim is to delineate the actual phenomena experienced by patients in all their concrete and distinctive detail, so that the general features of pathological conditions emerge, while preserving their peculiar feel, meaning and value for the individual patient. Systematic explorations of anomalies in the patient’s experience, for example of time, space, body, self, and otherness, may usefully be integrated with symptom-based and endophenotype-based approaches. Such anomalies can also be used as pointers to fundamental alterations in the structure of subjectivity by which particular mental disorders are characterized.
