Organisational Partner: OxAAA (Oxford Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm) study
Lead contact: OxAAA study email: firstname.lastname@example.org
Brief Description of Work: The OxAAA study has taken a pioneering approach to patient and public engagement in research. Using a survey, they first ascertained the patients’ preferences on timing for surgery for small AAAs. Patients are also invited to attend an aneurysm awareness day, whereby a range of talks were presented on all aspects of AAA management, followed by interactive stations to take each patient through the NHS journey. Participants also received updates of the survey response, so that they are aware of the preference of their peers. These activities highlighted the importance of a values based approach to research practice.
