As a full time academician for over 35 years my major interests include: organizational leadership; education; the therapeutic alliance; and using psychotherapeutic skills to enhance both diagnostic and treatment decision making. My message is that good care depends on knowing who is the person with the illness as well aswhat is the illness. I was a leader in the World Psychiatric Association initiative on Psychiatry for the Person and am currently Chair of the Section for Education. I also do cognitive neuroscience research using computerized brain mapping and neuromodulation. I am senior editor of the comprehensive textbook Psychiatry
