As Culture Editor, my aim is to re-energise the historic connection between psychiatric practice and cultural discourse. While “culture” is often synonymised with the Arts—including musical and literary arts as well as visual—it is much broader, covering topics as varied as anthropology, journalism & the media, cultural aspects of computing, alternative perspectives on psychiatry such as “mad studies”, philosophy, and the role of culture in regulation. It will be exciting to have both professional insiders exploring the impact of these on practice, and outsiders contributing their own perspectives, within a framework of excellence supported by peer review.
