My research lies at the crossroads of medicine and philosophy. I investigate the concept, ethics, and methodology of ‘placebos’/’placebo controls’, and general philosophical and epidemiological issues surrounding Evidence-Based Medicine (EBM), with a special focus on the defense of the EBM position on mechanisms. More recently I have focused on the problems associated with over-diagnosis and overtreatment. Have collaborated with Professor Bill Fulford working on the Philosophy of Evidence-Based Medicine.
