Consultant forensic psychiatrist and psychotherapist.

My interests are: 1) clashes of value between the individual and the state: as is common in forensic psychiatry. Service users may express beliefs and values that are contrary to law and are antisocial in nature; yet respect for autonomy and personal recovery encourage professionals to validate service users’ personal narratives. 2) tensions between forensic practice seeking to change the values of service users as unacceptable and the recovery agenda and positive risk taking. 3) The role of reflective practice in exploring anxieties about roles/responsibilities and the ‘values’ that are taken up by different staff members.
