I have been supporting Values Based Practice (VBP) since 2004 when I worked on the 10 Essential Shared Capabilities (ESC) mental health programme for the Department of Health. I continue to base all our project work using a clear values base. We have developed the following resources; The national training materials for the Care Programme Approach based on the ESC. VBP also influenced our work on the national training materials for the Welsh Government’s Mental Health care and treatment legislation. Within the university we have designed a values based undergraduate nursing curriculum with VBP learning outcomes in each module.
