As well as contemporary philosophy of thought and language, my main research lies within the philosophy of psychiatry and concerns conceptual issues at the heart of mental healthcare. I am author of Essential Philosophy of Psychiatry (OUP 2007),Wittgenstein on Language and Thought (EUP 1998), John McDowell (Acumen 2004) and co-author of the Oxford Textbook of Philosophy and Psychiatry (OUP 2006) and Tacit Knowledge(Acumen 2013) and one of the co-editors of the Oxford Handbook of Philosophy and PsychiatryOxford: Oxford University Press (OUP 2013). I set up help run a Philosophy and Mental Health Masters-level distance learning teaching program with Gloria Ayob at UCLan
